Paul Jozsef - Canadian Certified Counsellor

Individual and Couples Therapy for Adults and Older Teens

Professional Background

I am an Australian-born Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) and Professional Member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), based in Montreal. I hold a Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Jansen Newman Institute and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Sydney.

I have been in clinical practice since 2016, working with adults, older teens and couples navigating anxiety, depression, anger, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions. My practice, Paul Jozsef Counselling & Coaching, is based in Westmount, Montreal, and I serve clients across the Greater Montreal area.

My training combines evidence-based therapeutic frameworks with over 25 years of personal mindfulness and meditation practice. This background informs a grounded, practical approach to therapy that prioritises real-world results over abstract theory.

Clinical Approach

Therapy in my practice is collaborative and structured. Sessions focus on identifying what is actually driving the problem, building concrete skills to manage it, and making measurable progress toward clearly defined goals.

My work is rooted in understanding the deeper patterns that shape how people think, feel, and relate to others, including early experiences, unconscious dynamics, and long-standing relational habits. I also draw on questions of meaning, purpose, and personal responsibility, which are often at the centre of what brings people to therapy. Mindfulness practice is woven throughout, both as a clinical tool and as a foundation I have built over 25 years of personal practice. The approach is tailored to each client rather than one-size-fits-all.

You do not need to have everything figured out before we meet. The first session is about understanding what brought you to therapy, what you want to change, and whether we are a good fit. There is no obligation to continue beyond the first session.

My style is honest and direct. I do not talk around problems or pad sessions with filler.

Areas of Specialisation

Anxiety Counselling — I help clients understand and reduce the patterns of anxious thinking, avoidance, and physical tension that keep anxiety in control of their lives.

Depression Counselling — I work with clients who feel stuck, unmotivated, or disconnected to rebuild a sense of direction and engagement with daily life.

Anger Management — I support clients in understanding their anger triggers, developing healthier responses, and repairing the damage that unmanaged anger causes in relationships and at work.

Men’s Mental Health — Many men find it difficult to ask for help or do not see traditional therapy as relevant to them. My practice is designed to be a space where men can address what they are dealing with without the expectation that they perform vulnerability or speak in a particular way about their feelings.

Psychedelic Integration Counselling — For individuals who have had psychedelic experiences and want professional support in making sense of them, integrating insights into daily life, or processing difficult material that emerged during a session.

Why This Work

Most people who contact a therapist have already spent a long time trying to sort things out on their own. By the time they reach out, the problem has usually been affecting their work, their relationships, or their health for months or years.

Over the past nine years, I have worked with hundreds of clients dealing with anxiety, anger, depression, and relationship difficulties. That clinical experience shapes every session as much as formal training does.

I started this practice because I saw a gap between what many people, especially men, actually need from therapy and what is typically on offer. Too much of the mental health space relies on vague language, passive listening, and approaches that leave clients unsure whether anything is really changing. That is not how things work here.

My goal is simple: help people get to a better place as efficiently as possible, with tools and understanding they can use long after therapy ends.

I provide receipts that can be submitted to your insurance provider for reimbursement. Check with your provider to confirm coverage for services from a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC).
