Pornography Addiction Therapy Montreal

Counselling for Compulsive Pornography Use in Westmount, Montreal

Accepting new clients in-person and online.

Pornography use becomes a problem when it stops feeling like a choice. You may have tried to cut back or stop and found that the pattern reasserts itself, often at the worst times. The gap between what you want to do and what you actually do widens, and with it comes shame, secrecy, and a growing sense of being stuck.

As a therapist in Westmount, I work with adults who are dealing with pornography use that has become compulsive and is affecting their relationships, their self-image, or their ability to function the way they want to. Sessions are available in person in Montreal and online across Canada.

How Compulsive Pornography Use Works

Compulsive pornography use follows a recognisable cycle: an urge builds, the behaviour provides temporary relief or escape, and regret or shame follows. Over time, the cycle becomes automatic. It stops being about pleasure and starts functioning as a way to manage stress, boredom, loneliness, anxiety, or emotional discomfort.

The consequences tend to accumulate quietly. Intimacy with a partner suffers. Motivation and focus decline. Self-esteem erodes. Many people describe spending more time than they intend to, escalating the type of content they consume, or continuing despite clear negative effects on their lives. These patterns are common, and they respond well to structured therapy.

How Therapy Helps

Shame tends to maintain the behaviour, not resolve it. Willpower alone rarely works because it does not address what is driving the pattern in the first place. Therapy takes a different approach.

In the first session, we talk about what is happening, how the pattern developed, and what impact it is having. From there, we build a plan that targets the specific mechanisms keeping the cycle in place.

Ongoing sessions focus on:

  • Identifying the triggers, emotions, and situations that maintain compulsive use
  • Developing practical strategies for managing urges when they arise
  • Addressing underlying issues such as anxiety, stress, depression, avoidance, or low self-esteem
  • Working through the impact on relationships, intimacy, and sexual functioning
  • Building a clearer sense of your values and how you want to move forward

Sessions are confidential and non-judgmental. My role is not to tell you what to value or how to live. It is to help you align your behaviour with what you actually want for yourself and your relationships.

What to Expect

You do not need to have hit a crisis point to start. Many clients come in because they have noticed the pattern escalating and want to address it before it causes more damage. Others come after it has already affected a relationship or their sense of themselves.

Progress depends on honest engagement with the process. Some clients see meaningful shifts relatively quickly once they understand what is driving the behaviour and begin applying new strategies. Others benefit from longer-term work, particularly when the pattern is tied to deeper issues around avoidance, connection, or self-worth. We track progress together and adjust the approach as needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is pornography addiction therapy?
Therapy for compulsive pornography use addresses patterns of use that feel out of control and that cause distress or interfere with daily life, relationships, or intimacy. It helps identify what maintains the cycle and builds practical strategies for change.

Is pornography addiction a recognised clinical condition?
“Pornography addiction” is not a formal diagnostic category, but compulsive sexual behaviour disorder is recognised by the World Health Organisation (ICD-11). Regardless of terminology, if your use feels unmanageable or is causing problems, therapy can help.

Will I be judged?
No. Shame is a core part of this experience for most people, and it is addressed directly in therapy, not reinforced. You can speak openly about what you are going through.

Do you work with both men and women?
Yes. Compulsive pornography use affects people across genders. Sessions are tailored to your specific situation.

Do you offer in-person and online sessions?
Yes. Sessions are available in person at my office in Westmount, Montreal and online for clients across Canada.

Do you issue insurance receipts?
Yes. I provide receipts that can be submitted to your insurance provider. Confirm directly with your insurer whether counselling services from a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) are covered under your plan.

What is your cancellation policy?
I require 48 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. This allows me to offer the time slot to other clients.
